Overview

Ocwis reimagines the hiring workflow with a clean interface for employers to post roles and review applicants, and for candidates to discover jobs and track their applications. I contributed to both the candidate and employer experiences.

The Problem

Recruiting tools tend to be either heavy enterprise suites or scattered spreadsheets and inboxes. Small and mid-size teams needed something modern, quick to adopt, and pleasant for candidates too.

Architecture

Frontend

Next.js app with separate candidate and employer experiences sharing a common component library.

Auth

JWT sessions with role claims, enforced in middleware to protect employer-only routes.

API layer

Endpoints for jobs, applications, and profiles with pagination and filtering for large listings.

Data

Relational schema modeling jobs, companies, candidates, and application stages with clear foreign keys.

Key Features & My Role

  • Job listings with search, filters, and role-based discovery
  • Employer workspace for posting jobs and managing applicants through stages
  • Candidate profiles, resume uploads, and application status tracking
  • Role-based authentication separating candidates and employers

Outcomes & Results

  • Replaced email-and-spreadsheet tracking with a structured applicant pipeline.
  • Cut the steps a candidate needs to apply down to a single guided flow.
  • Created a flexible stage model that adapts to different hiring processes.

Reflection

The hardest part was designing the application-stage model so it stayed flexible without becoming confusing. Starting with a small, opinionated set of stages worked better than infinite configurability.
